South Segregationists Cite Habit and Paternalism in Debate
A detailed look at white resistance to black equality in the South. Segregationists justify unequal rights with claims of Negro development, home life, and readiness for integration, while other quotes describe affection without equality. The piece also contrasts this with a broader view of racial attitudes and the church's role, ending with a note on new airport passenger vehicles.

Bennington Free Library budget far below ALA recommendations
The Bennington Free Library operates on about $22,000 a year far under the American Library Association's suggested minimum of $3.50 per person for public libraries of its size. With a 1963 budget of $22,150, $17,900 comes from the Town of Bennington and the rest from endowments and YMA rent. The library houses roughly 35,000 volumes and is run by a self perpetuating Board of Directors and Trustees, aided by the Friends of the Library.
