Wilmington Library dates from one of states first
Wilmington's Pettee Memorial Library traces origins to 1796 as the Wilmington Social Library. It grew from a $1.50 initial gift and 50 cent annual dues, with book lending rules tied to thickness. The town later funded a free library, moved locations, and expanded to a 13,000 volume collection with endowments shaping its ongoing operation.
