140 Day Spacecraft Set For Venus Flyby Launch

Atlas Agena B rocket to lift Mariner 1 from Cape Canaveral for a 140 day voyage to Venus. The 446 pound craft will pass within 10 000 miles of Venus for 30 minutes on December 8 to study clouds and environment. Data will be sent to Earth for analysis on magnetic fields radiation and space conditions aiding future missions. A second Mariner is planned in the same 50 day window to maximize the Venus alignment.

Additional Ten Claiming Reward In Brink's Case

Boston AP reports ten more claimants filed for the 100000 reward after the Brink's counting house robbery of January 17 1950 drawing total claims to over twenty. The heist yielded 1219000 and eight men are serving life terms. one claimant is Towanda PA Police Chief Dean Meredith.

Peru Man Seeks Another Term In the Assembly

Daulton Mann Jr. a Republican from Peru, announced a bid for a third term as town representative to the General Assembly. He lists investor as occupation and has served on Ways and Means, Conservation and Development, Banking and Corporations, and Fish and Game committees. He holds positions on the State Board of Institutions and Advisory Parole Board and acts as town moderator, town clerk, and treasurer. He is one of two Bennington County Republicans representing Peru.

Lemnitzer Named Next NATO Commander in Europe

Gen Lyman Lemnitzer will become U S commander in chief in Europe and Gen Maxwell D Taylor will succeed him as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The changes place Lemnitzer to possibly succeed Gen Lauris Norstad as supreme NATO commander in Europe. Gen George H Decker will retire with Gen Earle G Wheeler succeeding him. Keyser Opens Special Session On Reapportionment

Gov. F. Ray Keyser Jr. called a special session for 1 p.m. Wednesday to discuss Vermont senate reapportionment after the Vermont Supreme Court ruled Chittenden County’s representation unconstitutional. One Dead in Vermont Car Crash

A one car crash in Braintree Vermont Friday night killed one person and injured three others. The injured were taken to Randolph Hospital and identified as John Burger of Oyster Bay New York George Yackovitz of St James New York and Leonard Doscinski of Riverhead New York.

Williams says Estes grain short of 68 000 bushels

Senator John J Williams of Delaware cites a comptroller general finding that 68 000 bushels were unaccounted in grain warehouses tied to Billie Sol Estes while the Agriculture Department denies a true shortage. Carnival Man Bids Re election To Upper House

New Castle New Brunswick state senator Reid Lefevre of Manchester announced Friday from this Canadian town that he will seek re election to a second term in the state's upper house. Lefevre on tour with his traveling carnival asked associates in Bennington County to circulate petitions for his nomination in the Republican primary elections. Lefevre announcement assures a contest for the two senate posts from Bennington County. Also announcing on the Republican ticket has been Atty Eugene V Clark of Bennington. Seeking the post for the Democrats will be George Van Santvoord, also of Bennington. Prior to his election to the senate post in 1961 Lefevre had served as town representative from Manchester continuously since 1947.

Heaslip Seeks GOP Nomination for Second Assembly Term

Manchester George J. Heaslip announced he would seek re election on the Republican ticket to a second General Assembly term. A petroleum distributor Heaslip served on the House Ways and Means Committee and has been active in local civic affairs. He began circulating petitions to enter the Republican primary.
