Liquor as medicine praised by Harvard psychiatrist
A Saga magazine piece quotes Dr. Morris E. Chafetz arguing liquor aids treatment of heart and kidney disease and can ease anxiety in patients. He contends moderate alcohol may help diabetics on strict diets and even assist alcoholics with liver disease when used with meals, noting no proven harm in certain liver conditions. He cautions against demon rum fears and cites studies of hepatitis and cirrhosis patients. The piece also lists church services and organ music at First Baptist and Old First Church with sermon and readings scheduled.
