The forecast calls for muggy heat and sun today with highs around 85 to 90 degrees. Tonight remains warm with variable clouds and a chance of a thunderstorm. Lows in the 60s. Saturday remains hazy and humid with a chance of an afternoon thunderstorm and similar highs.
Bennington will receive 1.722 million in EDA public works funds while Shaftsbury gets nothing under revised targets. Sunderland drops from 950000 to 196000 and Arlington falls to 132000. The towns face anger as EDA’s criteria shifted away from requests, with Bennington’s possible projects including water system upgrades, a filtration plant, and senior housing.

The Senate approved a Durkin plan granting the President authority to order federal exploratory drilling on offshore and onshore lands as part of an oil and gas resource inventory. West German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt flew to Iceland ending a visit in which he and President Carter pledged closer consultations on major issues. A 19 gun salute rang out as Schmidt departed Washington then he traveled by Marine helicopter to Andrews Air Force Base and boarded his jet. The two days of talks stressed the closeness of their consultations.
In Hoosick Falls New York Grand Union plans relocation to a 20 000 square foot shopping center off Route 22 near Willow Hill Road on the former Ehmler estate. Centre at Hoosick could start this fall with a major supermarket anchor as the key draw.
