North Adams approves plateau site for new high school plan
The North Adams School Building Committee selected the city plateau east of South Church Street for a proposed high school to replace Drury High. They considered buying adjacent land to ease design limits from slopes and to fit athletic fields and a bus loop. Architect Warren H. Ashley said land purchase could be cheaper than taller construction, with five test borings supporting feasibility. Mayor Bianco urged using suitable portions of a 24 acre parcel south of the site, keeping Church Street frontage for homes.
