Bennington Unification Taxes Prompt Two Budget Proposals
Bennington's Unification Study Committee debated tax fairness in consolidating town, three villages, and a fire district. Two main plans emerged: Taylor proposes a two Budgets system with urban services split and separate budgets for water, sewer, and related items. Williams proposes a single town budget with separate user assessments for water, sewer, sidewalks and street lights. Both aim to ease rural tax hikes, but differ on how to divide costs and apply rates. The next meeting is set for July 26.
