Kennedy asks tax breaks to spur industry in ghetto areas
Senator Robert Kennedy urged U.S. private enterprises to win tax breaks for building job creating industries in decaying urban areas as part of a new alliance to fight poverty. He argued the war on poverty needs big business participation with incentives like a 10 year program creating at least 50 new jobs for ghetto residents, plus depreciation writeoffs, a 25 percent payroll deduction, and existing investment tax credits extended to plant construction and leasing. Kennedy warned current policies are inefficient and must be expanded to include the private sector to reduce welfare costs and spur urban renewal.
