Vermont Army National Guard drivers received safety training for the summer field training at Camp Drum New York from July 22 to August 5. The program, organized by the Vermont Department of Public Safety and Brig Gen Leonard F Wing Jr, covered highway safety and driving at Drum. Aimed at an accident free convoy, the training began May 27 and concluded last weekend with unit visits. Rich ard L. West, 10, of Lincoln Nebraska, cut down a utility pole with a lawn mower and caused a guy wire to snap, bringing the pole down.

Elephant Kidnapped Turns Up in Oakland Carport
A three year old Indian elephant named Kimi weighing a ton was found in the Hoover family carport in Oakland after an early morning attempt to abduct her at Knowland Zoo. Police traced a motorist report of an elephant chasing two men along Golf Links Road before Kimi returned home unharmed. Zoo officials escorted her back to the Knowland Zoo.
