Bennington Mount Anthony name debated by locals
The Bennington area weighs conflicting claims on Mt Anthony’s name. A 1917 Hoosic valley legend credits St Anthony of Padua via Jesuit traders and a shrine, while Henry Clay Day argues the peak honors Peter Anthony who died in 1788. The dispute reflects long local inquiry since 1976.
