Gulliver's Night Club Fire Kills 24 In Port Chester

At Gulliver's discotheque on the New York Connecticut border a sudden fire and smoke trapped about 200 inside. Within minutes the blaze killed 24 and injured 32 as debris fell and patrons fled in panic. Fire officials noted most victims died of smoke asphyxiation near the bandstand.

Not guilty plea in slaying of Dr King Sr. mother

Marcus Wayne Chenault, 23, of Dayton Ohio, pleads not guilty to two counts of murder and related charges in the fatal church shooting that killed Mrs. Martin Luther King Sr. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. FBI aids probe into large Manchester burglary

In Manchester village a burglary netted 17 jewelry pieces valued about six thousand dollars, plus silver flatware and at least five paintings worth around twenty one thousand. The crime site was the home of Mr and Mrs Charles W Nichols Jr on Prospect Street. Local and state police, lacking clues, noted the FBI involvement and said the safe was pried open with the jewels missing. The couple had planned a Ireland vacation and had just returned from New York City before reporting the loss.
