Final shoreline zoning action eyed in Montpelier
In Montpelier the Vermont House prepared to take final action on a shoreline zoning bill. An amendment stripped state enforcement power as Rep. Henry Carse proposed weakening the measure, while Environmental Secretary Martin Johnson rejected claims the change undermines the zoning plan. If approved, municipalities must zone shorelines by June 1, 1976, with possible future state review and reinstatement of control if action lags.

Vermont House backs orange shirt rule for deer hunters
The Vermont House gave preliminary approval to a hunter safety bill requiring bright orange jackets or shirts for deer hunters. Opponents argued it would regulate attire and intrude on personal freedom, while supporters cited reduced hunting accidents. The debate included concerns over environmental influence and liability if a nonorange shooter harms another hunter. A second bill would require hunter safety courses for licenses, with an exemption for existing licensees. A Senate measure to curb campaign lengths was returned to committee. A French culture promotion bill passed the Senate to foster Vermont Quebec ties.
