Bennington’s Cooper needle tale of a town’s underwear era
Emile Bellemare and dozens of locals powered Bennington’s knitting boom at Cooper Needle, Allen-A, and area mills. The five story Allen-A building on Scott Street later became Union Carbide No 1, while Cooper Co. closed around 1957. Workers recall clean shops, no unions, and a three day wage strike.
