Pownal weighs final hearing for zoning bylaw enactment
In Pownal, a final selectmen hearing on a proposed permanent zoning plan drew under 20 residents. Three selectmen voiced views, with Mason skeptical yet supportive, Burrington cautious yet approving, and Palmer backing the ordinance as a town-designed land use plan to guide development and prevent state takeover. The plan divides town into rural residential and forest districts, allows most uses with regulations, imposes minimum lots of one and five acres, includes a grandfather clause, and creates a part time zoning administrator if adopted. A five year automatic review is included and amendments require petition, hearing, and vote.
