House weighs liquor ban on election day for revenue
The Vermont House debates allowing liquor sales on election day to raise about 118000 dollars in added revenue, with 35000 dollars more in tax receipts. Committee clashes arise between Ways and Means and General and Military Affairs over the rewrite of the 1932 act. Chairman Henry N Hicks of Perkinsville questions the move and suggests sobriety during voting. A separate floor agreement between highway and natural resources committees preserves a safe roads policy while softening salt use rules amid environmental concerns. The chamber also backs a Senate resolution on regional rail linking Montreal, Boston, and New York, and considers park fee studies and wildlife bounty changes.

Vermont Highway Commissioner John T. Gray told the House Ways and Means Committee that without a nine cent per gallon tax, the eight cent increase would be insufficient to honor highway program promises.
