Davis Seeks Serious Consideration of Aid to Parochial Schools

Gov. Deane C. Davis backs a plan under review by the state Education Board to extend public funding to parochial schools. The proposal would count private school children in state aid calculations and allow public school systems to provide lay teachers to Catholic schools. Davis noted higher costs if Catholic schools close and public systems absorb their students, but warned constitutional questions remain unresolved.
