Ice Jams Delay Amtrak Trains In Vermont
Ice jams on the Connecticut River flooded tracks of the Boston and Maine Railroad delaying two Amtrak trains between Washington and Montreal. Passengers were bused to other trains. Civil Defense officials expect colder weather while two U S Army Corps teams assist in breaking up at least 11 critical ice jams threatening river overflow. Northbound train with 182 aboard delayed in Brattleboro and a southbound train stopped in Bellows Falls.

Heavy ice jams and thaw surge flood several towns in Washington and Rensselaer counties. No injuries reported though homes evacuated in Buskirk. Old wooden Buskirk bridge nearly 100 feet long sustained major damage as ice floe passed underneath raising it about 20 feet. cracks, snapped cables, and damaged flared corners noted.
