Nort h Adams schools drop honor roll publication
North Adams and McCann Technical schools will stop publishing honor rolls amid a state regulation on keeping student records confidential. Superintendent Robert E. Loretan said the publication may violate the intent of the rules as interpreted by the Education Department and the issue is under review by the state attorney general. In the same city, West Main Street elm trees aged over a century are being removed, with 10 removed and the Elm Manor name rooted in the past. Public works chief Joseph J. Girardi noted Dutch elm disease prompts about 125 tree removals yearly at a cost of roughly $16,000, though demand could exceed the budget.
