MONTPELIER Woodford will keep its alliance with Bennington in a new three town six member district joining Pownal under the 1974 mandatory reapportionment unless a House battle changes the plan reported by the House Government Operations Committee. The panel chaired by Rep Orrin Beattie approved the plan 5-4 with Beattie abstaining and Rep G William Hamilton voting no amid pressure from Woodford residents and District 3 legislators.
Secretary of State Edmund G Brown Jr confirms state investigation into alleged backdating of a deed transferring Richard Nixon's vice presidential papers to the National Archives. The probe centers on whether the deed was signed before or after a law change that affected the tax deduction claimed by Nixon. The issue involves notary Frank DeMarco and dates April 21 1969 and April 10 1970.
The House Judiciary Committee filed to secure a list of campaign contributors and depositions from Common Cause in the Nixon inquiry. Depositions include Bebe Rebozo and Patrick Hillings. Court action follows Senate Watergate access of nonpublic materials, easing next steps for impeachment scrutiny.

The move aims to settle liens against a trust for her eight children amid claims of asset depletion and alleged funds diversion. Walsh, representing Buck’s seven other heirs, urged a full inquiry while noting the bank’s major claim in the matter.
A Columbia University study reports the first direct evidence of cellular damage in humans from long term marijuana use. Led by Dr. Gabriel Nahas, the four member team links marijuana to weakened white blood cells, potential genetic effects, and urges a reappraisal of the National Commission on Marijuana findings amid calls to decriminalize related drugs.
