Vermont state workers rally for pay hike and against longer week
More than 300 state employees gathered at Bethany Church in Montpelier with about a dozen Central Vermont lawmakers to press for a across the board 10 percent pay raise. The poll backed the raise and opposed Gov Salmon’s 40 hour work week and the plan to move 600 workers to Waterbury. House Ways and Means chair Giuliani avoided a position but said he hopes the legislature helps those at the lower end without tax increases.

Tenants oppose Vermont landlord tenant bill at hearing
At a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Montpelier, tenants and low income groups harshly criticized a proposed Vermont landlord tenant law. Walpole Bank Opposes Pulp Mill Plan in Town
The Walpole Savings Bank, Walpole New Hampshire, runs a newspaper ad opposing a $200 million Parsons and Whittemore pulp mill proposal in Walpole. The ad, signed by all 10 trustees including Donald M. Given and John A. Hubbard, claims the mill would harm rural land values and ecology while offsetting tax benefits. It appeared in a local shopper paper and was to run next week in the Claremont Eagle Times and Brattleboro Reformer, though Keene Sentinel objected to a political ad label and the trustees held back that publication.
