3 400 Acre Stamford Development Unveiled
A Massachusetts attorney Frank J Opie bought 3400 acres in two parcels near Stamford Pond and West Hill, Stamford. For Want of Warm Motor Oil a House Burns
A January morning fire in a Harwood Hill residence gutted the two story home of Clifford Denio as four fire companies battled below zero temperatures. Hyland Capri and injured resident Fred Squires were pulled to safety as flames spread from heating automotive oil on an electric stove. Squires, burned but in good condition, was taken to Putnam Memorial Hospital. A dog and two pet birds perished. Firefighters reported ammunition and six guns found in an upstairs drawer as they entered the home. State Police Cpl. William Luczynski led the initial response and described a scene of panic among bystanders.
