Hostages escape ends two day Brooklyn siege
Four gunmen who held nine hostages at John and Al's Sporting Goods in Brooklyn surrendered after a 47 hour standoff. Police described a disciplined operation with hostages escaping via a hidden stairwell and a rooftop handover. One officer was killed and others injured during the crisis.

Oil cleanup continues in San Francisco Bay marinas
