Union Carbide Breakthrough in Waste Disposal Process
Union Carbide Corp claims an environmental breakthrough in municipal solid waste disposal with a pyrolysis based process that converts waste into a premium fuel gas and fused slag. The Oxygen Refuse Converter System reduces waste volume by 95 to 98 percent, emits no atmospheric pollutants, and operates without shredding or pretreatment. Mount Vernon New York plans a full scale demonstration with EPA support to verify technical and economic benefits.
