Peace talks hinge on bombing halt says ex editor
Former Pulitzer winner Harry Ashmore, returned from Hanoi, says North Vietnam may send a delegation to an unofficial peace conference but formal talks likely only after U S bombing of the north ends. He notes North Vietnam sees the war as stalemate and rejects major concessions while bombs continue. China and Russia indicated peace envoy participation for a Geneva meeting set for May 23-28.
