CVPS PSB win NSF grant for three year load study
Central Vermont Public Service Corp and the Vermont Public Service Board together with Dartmouth College and the University of Vermont have earned a 444263 grant from the National Science Foundation to study demand management. The three year project will limit peak loads and improve energy use by customers. PSB coordinates the effort with Deputy Commissioner Richard V. DeGrasse as overall coordinator. Lee G. Senecal leads the lead restraint program. Gene E. Laber of UVM heads economic assessment. Alvin O. Converse of Dartmouth leads technical evaluation. The program follows the 1970 load management experiments begun by CV. The test system will operate automatically during peak periods and can be manually controlled to curb demand during energy shortfalls or outages.

Bennington Drops Skating Rink Bond From Ballot
Recreation Commissioner John Lyons said the $800000 rink bond will not appear on the March Town Meeting ballot as proponents abandon the plan due to an energy crisis and rising operating costs. The idea was to have a pay as you go facility with an ice rink and auditorium enabling free skating, hockey, and large events. A smaller private rink is still a possibility only if energy costs stabilize.
