New York UPI reports the British Automobile Manufacturers Association argues that four speed manual transmissions save 12 to 15 percent on fuel, challenging the view that automatics drive up gasoline use. The association based in Troy Michigan wrote in its December newsletter.

Loren Jones Named Highway Engineer in Vermont
Loren C. Jones of Barre was appointed highway engineer by Vermont’s Commissioner of Highways Johns Gray effective January 1. He will direct survey and design for all Vermont highway projects and bring decades of drafting, wartime service, and professional affiliation to the post. Jones, born in Hillsboro Oregon and raised in Vermont, is husband to Beverly Ayer of Manchester New Hampshire and resides in Barre Town.
