Tax Department Reports on Equalization Study Findings
The first of two state Tax Department reports on property assessment equalization examines each town's Grand List versus the department's fair market value estimates. In Bennington County towns like Bennington and Stamford, ratios align closely to the stated values, while others show major deviations signaling inaccurate assessments. The second report, due next week, covers appraisal practices. Gov Hoff cites deficiencies in local property assessment and notes an appeal process for districts aggrieved by taxable valuations.
