Mississippi Project aims to build Black leadership in Jackson
Ted Seaver, a Montpelier teacher, plans a Mississippi project modeled on Chicago and San Francisco block efforts. He will establish a community center and freedom school run by local Black leaders in Jackson, Mississippi, costing about 7500 dollars with living expenses for a year. Seaver and his family will move, facing hostility but aiming to foster self-reliance through nonviolent teaching amid a tense civil rights landscape.
