1972 73 contract talks open for about 255 teachers in Mt Anthony Pownal and Bennington school systems. SWVEA leads a single 11 member negotiating team headed by William Lally with outside firms hired by the three districts. Pay Board OKs Deferred Raises Up to Seven Percent
The Pay Board ruled retroactive pay for raises delayed during the wage price freeze may be reimbursed if the raise does not exceed 7 percent. The ruling follows a new law signed by President Nixon. The measure applies to raises deferred in the 90 day freeze from Aug 15 to Nov 13. The board also cut aerospace industry contract increases, reducing first year pay raises from 12.2 percent to 8.3 percent, with 17 cents moved to the second year of the three year deals, affecting North American Rockwell, McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, Lockheed, and LTV Aerospace.

The Senate Natural Resources Committee in Montpelier is set to endorse a measure restoring the Fish and Game Department’s control over Vermont’s deer herd. Legal Aid office in Bennington to close in Rutland plan
Vermont Legal Aid will shutter its one man Bennington office in a consolidation move approved at the board’s annual meeting. A Rutland three man office will take over local cases with an attorney assigned to Bennington, using BROC facilities while in town. Local staff commented but could not be reached for details.

Democrats cry fraud about Davis budget in Vermont
Gov Deane C Davis unveiled a 289 million hold the line budget aimed at erasing the General Fund deficit this year. Soviet expels U S congressman over emigration probe
UPI reports Soviet authorities expelled visiting U S Representative James H. Scheuer of New York after accusing him of urging Soviet Jews to emigrate to Israel. Scheuer, part of a six member delegation led by John Brademas, faced three charges including inviting Soviet Jews to leave the USSR and distributing controversial material. The group had been in the Soviet Union on an education study tour and planned to return to Moscow before flying home to the United States.
