Manchester School Board shifts into high gear at budget meeting
Manchester budget debate stretched into the early hours as Dr Clifford B Harwood answered health questions and Ralph Fleming Jr outlined in service training. Principal Donald R Shanks presented kindergarten and 1964 65 budgets with per pupil costs of 146 dollars. Superintendent Neil Cross discussed renovating Manchester Elementary School for a practical vocational program to avoid new classrooms, possible federal aid, and a future where seventh and eighth graders may leave the current building. The board planned further sessions with Shanks and Cross to prepare a taxpayer report and debated a community based cooperative program with local artisans and Granville High School tuition. The plan includes on the job training for non college preparatory students and potential transportation funding to Granville.
