Dredge Attack and Saigon River Offensive Raises War Toll

Communist frogmen mined and sank a large dredge on the Mekong blocking a river channel. two Americans died and a fourth missing. Viet Cong attacked two Vietnamese minesweepers and a British tanker, killing 12, plus heavy Viet Cong and American casualties in air and ground actions near Saigon. Seven Americans killed as a U S Air Force C47 was shot down. Civilians harmed as Viet Cong used women and children as shields during a Ranger company assault, with 10 children killed and 25 women and children wounded. Reports include Marine base attacks, ongoing bombing in the Iron Triangle, and the South Vietnamese army killing tens of thousands of Communists in 1966.

Council Studies Reports MONTPELIER

The Legislative Council meets to decide if it will take formal action on committee reports before sending them to the legislature.
