Pownal Votes No Again on School Bond Issue
Pownal voters rejected a 750000 bond plan to add 15 classrooms at Pownal Center School for the second time by 210 to 267, leaving the town with no solution to overcrowding and a divided school board. An alternative to refurbish North Pownal School also failed 222 to 248, as turnout was 478 of 1123 eligible. The board planned a meeting next Tuesday to decide what proposal to place before voters.

DDT Ban Endorsed by Environmental Commission
The Governor's Environmental Control Commission gave final endorsement Tuesday for a pesticide regulation measure that bans DDT by year end. The bill, similar to an earlier concept, would regulate regular sale and use through licensing and permits for the 1970 session.
