Selectmen settle with Ms Schaffer in equal pay dispute
Bennington selectmen reach a settlement with recreation department worker Pat Schaffer after a dispute over equal pay. They grant a raise from 7500 to 8000 dollars and pay 500 dollars, following representation by Phoebe Morse and Pat Barr. The case centered on compensation for roles from July 1974 to July 1975 and whether the programs director and physical director positions were substantially equal. The decision comes amid debate on whether the act was intended or its effect discriminatory.

Construction Industry Vital And Tax Credits In 1975
Congress moved to give a tax credit to buyers of new homes in 1975 praising construction as vital to the economy. Government data show construction accounted for about ten percent of GNP in 1973, with new housing making up a third of that. A single $36,900 house supports about 1.5 local jobs for a year and adds roughly 836,900 to GNP plus related construction and retail effects. A lost housing start costs four jobs and over $80,000 in local income yearly. Mrs. Hoisington is principal broker of Hoisington Realty and holds leadership roles in regional real estate groups in Vermont and New York.
