A native looks at Dorset
This series examines Dorset as it shifts from a New England town to an investment driven landscape. It contrasts a beauty of old values with rising property prices and suburbanization while reflecting on what becomes of local character and life as land sales and taxation reform reshape the community.

North Bennington seeks lean but hopeful school budget
The North Bennington School Board heard an optimistic budget briefing from Supt George A Lenin showing a likely surplus this year despite earlier fears from a $118000 state aid check shortfall versus $121000. Delinquencies and rising Social Security and hospital insurance costs threaten next year, prompting a plan to delay renovations and seek June voter approval for possible 30 percent state aid. The board denied special remedial help for two Grade 3 transfers, favoring parent-arranged tutoring if needed, and praised a mathematics program update. A potential future of reduced federal Title 1 funds was warned, with hopes to preserve current staff support, while a dental hygienist will service several district schools on a rotating schedule.
