Pownal Bus Service Faces Possible Shutdown
Pownal private bus service between Bennington and The Pownals for high school students may stop if rider numbers do not rise. Harry Andrews, driver and owner, notes only 10 to 12 pupils ride weekly from South Pownal North Pownal and Pownal Center, despite 24 expressing interest at $3 per pupil weekly. If 26 or more enroll, price could drop to $2.50. Andrews, a long-time district driver, kept service running after his home burned last April.
