Vermont Removes 78 Gasoline Signage Along I 89 91
Highway Department officials report 78 disputed gasoline brandname signs were removed from Interstate 89 and 91 and stored in a Colchester garage pending guidance from petroleum companies. The move follows Vermont’s anti billboard law and a year long dispute among state agencies over legality. The signs, erected in May 1967 under a pilot with the Vermont Petroleum Association, faced an attorney general ruling that they were illegal and Travel Information Council denial of permits.
