Vermont Plans to Test Mortgage Agency Bond Use
Banking Commissioner Charles Black says a test case will challenge the Vermont Home Mortgage Credit Agency constitutionality. If upheld, the agency could issue up to 10 million dollars in bonds to buy home mortgages, freeing bank funds for private loans. Also, Sen. George Hayes will push a March 5 resolution for a unicameral Vermont legislature, backed by several senators. In Washington, the U.S. Office of Education is set to approve a 500 thousand dollar bilingual program for Orleans Essex North Supervisory Union teachers to use French in Northeast Kingdom schools until students learn English.
