Truck Driver Injured In Violent Shaftsbury Crash
A southbound St Johnsbury tractor trailer bound for Bennington’s St Johns Burying Company terminal went out of control on U.S. 7 near the Shaftsbury state police barracks at 6 am. Driver Carl Walden of Keene New Hampshire was taken to Putnam Memorial Hospital in fair condition. The crash damaged power lines disrupting service to Shaftsbury areas until 8:18 am. The rig’s cargo scattered as the trailer toppled beside the highway after skidding through guard rails on both sides. Investigators believe brake or skid action caused the loss of control as the cab struck one guard rail then the trailer rolled over an embankment.
