Senate Democrats press withdrawal by end of 1972
After two hours of debate, Senate Democrats adopt a resolution urging President Nixon to withdraw all U S forces from Indochina by end of 1972. The 31 to 8 vote marks a first party position on the war, with no legal standing or binding effect. The plan sets a time certain for withdrawal and prisoner releases, while Mansfield says it is a constructive, nonbinding aid to the President.
