Bennington officials revive talk of a roadside elm planting from 1932 that honored George Washington. About 1 000 trees were planted along what is now Vermont 67A between North Bennington and U S 7, funded by 700 contributors at $2 each for two years of care. The Bennington Garden Club led the project with 650 extra saplings kept in reserve, and U S Rep John E Weeks planted the first tree in 1931.
