Surtax and state aid to education linked in VT legislature
Rep Edwina Colvin reports a legislative battle over surtax use. One faction seeks a four year phaseout, another would repeal heating oil and electricity taxes, while Colvin favors escrow of surtax funds for two years to seed state aid to education. She notes Gov Snelling opposes immediate repeal and outlines a middle ground with two year escrow ending in towns receiving aid. Tonight a State House deer season hearing follows this debate.
