Teflon origins and early corporate ties

Teflon, or PTFE, was invented by accident in Dupont Laboratories in the 1930s. The Dodge Fluorglas Division at OAK Industries highlighted its slip resistance and chemical inertness, with early uses in fiberglass insulation wire. Cleveland Dodge helped pioneer coating fibers, forming the Dodge Fibers Corporation in 1955, later Dodge Industries, which was acquired by OAK in 1967.
