Editor held by right wing group demands ransom
Atlanta Constitution editor John R Murphy was abducted by a group calling itself the American Revolutionary Army demanding 700000 dollars. A tape released by the paper includes a code word to be used by the intermediary in paying the ransom. Murphy said the captors target media for being leftist and liberal and plan to act. Public donations followed as the paper, owned by Cox, noted the offer. Murphy, 40 and father of two, said he is treated courteously and not in immediate danger unless authorities pursue. The ransom would be in mixed bills and delivered via a random call to someone in Atlanta. See EDITOR Page 14, Col. 1

Town Budget Sets 18 Month Budget At 2.43 Million
Town Manager Edward R. Lamb released the 18 month budget of 2,434,658 for Jan 1 1974 through June 30 1975. General fund 1,781,236 highway fund 653,422. Tax rate estimate for the period is 2.50, with 1.64 for general fund and 0.86 for highways. The rate could drop four or five cents when the 1974 Grand List is set. Wage settlements raise costs. selectmen cut, inflation hits. Real change equals about 21 percent versus 1973.

Hijacker and three die in Baltimore airport shootout
Delta Airlines copilot Fred Jones 32 of Dallas and an FAA security agent Neil Ramsburg of Howard County were killed as a white male hijacker shot his way into the cockpit at Baltimore-Washington International.
