House Education Committee Turns Down Amendment For Private Schools
A Vermont House Education panel rejected a proposal to designate private schools as quasi public to receive 30 percent school construction aid. Leland and Gray Seminary leaders urged inclusion, citing public-like funding and needs from Townshend Jamaica Wordsboro Newfane and Winhall for a building program after a fire and a proposed junior high. The committee warned such an amendment could jeopardize passage and invite broader claims, while noting sympathy for the private schools' aims.
