Weather toll from winter storm across the nation

Damaging rain sleet and snow spread nationwide as storms moved into the Northeast. Floods eased in Idaho Nevada and Wyoming allowing cleanup efforts. The Northeast saw heavy snow with Kingston New York reporting up to two feet. New York Providence and Albany recorded several inches in six hours. Two people died shoveling snow in New York state.

Bennington Teachers Asked to Defer Salary Increments

Bennington Graded School District trustees urged teachers to defer requests for salary increases for 1962-63 until a district wide salary schedule study is completed next year. The move followed a proposal for a temporary $200 increment for 19 long serving teachers and a plan for a full salary schedule review in 1962-63.

Fire damages U.S. Embassy in Mexico City

Fire swept through the partially completed U.S. Embassy building in Mexico City causing steel girders to collapse and wooden scaffolding to burn. No injuries were reported and the cause was not immediately known. A Mexican official estimated damage at 160000 dollars.
