Vermont Liberty Union Party urged Governor Salmon to publicly oppose the 27 percent rate increase sought by the New England Telephone Co. The group named Bernard Sanders and Lee Webb for the Public Service Board vacancy and urged a censor-oriented appointment.
A University of Vermont spokesman said the fall dean's list released last week was incorrect. A revised roster will be issued and uses criteria placing students in the top 26 percent of their class. The policy change was approved by the Academic Policy Committee and notified to all colleges.
The sevensnan special committee of the BCR recommended endorsement of the revised Capability and Development Plan. The plan is expected to emerge from a House Natural Resources Committee subcommittee by Feb 13 and then be carried to the House subcommittee.

A Bennington fire truck sustained about 800 dollars damage when a northbound 1954 Volvo struck its right front as the Maxim vehicle backed toward the firehouse. The Volvo driver James A. Kittel, 20, escaped unharmed. Later, a 1970 Plymouth driven by Stephen Pratt, 22, sideswiped a Betty Pratt car near Matteson Road and Route 67A. both vehicles had only minor damage with no injuries.
New York State Police report a Friday morning two car crash on Route 7 near Route 22 in Hoosick Falls. Ten people were seriously injured. Drivers were Johny Oneska of Fords New Jersey and Leroy Alderman of Troy New York. Oneska Alderman Alderman's wife Sandra and Marie Polinka were treated and released at Putnam Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
Burlington UPI report says Nixon budget cuts imperil Vermont health care as the Regional Medical Program must plan for a total phaseout by February 1974. Donald Danielson and Ray Levine warn the RMP, funding 17 projects from dental care for low income children to nurse practitioner programs, faces dismantling and detriment to care.
National Life Insurance Co. says it will sue the city of Montpelier if it does not honor a 1964 Memorandum of Understanding. The pact provides $320,000 in voluntary payments to Montpelier if the company’s Montpelier office appraises above seven million dollars. The city’s mayor questioned the agreement’s legality, and the firm’s president said court action would follow any breach.
Edith Beaumont reports the Hoosick Falls Aerie of Eagles hosts the annual Jimmy Durante crippled children's benefit tonight in the club room on First Street. A live band will play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. A buffet is served. Tickets cost $3 per couple at the door.
Lewis Stanley left his B ROC post after more than 12 years with the anti poverty agency. He moves to Globe Union, citing job insecurity from federal funding cuts. During his tenure he aided Meals on Wheels, organized summer youth jobs, and directed services for various programs. He hopes the community will support BROC to avoid folding.
The Bennington County coalition says Massachusetts Connecticut and Vermont planned a four lane Interstate from urban hubs into rural western New England. They urge full disclosure of plans a regional environmental impact statement and study of alternatives. The group cites delays from a court injunction and criticizes Commissioner Gray for alleged misrepresentation to the public.
The funeral of Mrs Frances Towsley Longe of 145 State St North Adams Mass formerly of Pownal was held Thursday at the Flynn Dagnell Montagna home for Funerals In North Adams. The Rev Dr Paw Klose pastor of the North Adams First Baptist Church officiated and at the grave. Burial was in Southview Cemetery. Unemployment in the Heonington area was 6.6 percent in January with 900 unemployed of 13 100 employed. The report cited waning construction activity and openings for material handlers. Edward J Curran Sr of East Arlington had a funeral with military honors.
UPI reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration could require new school buses to have seat belts and padded backs within three weeks. The move follows safety board talks noting 158 deaths and 4,500 injuries in 1971 bus incidents while lawmakers push for eight standards including window glass and belts.
The Vermont House sent a Senate-passed resolution faulting President Nixon for impounding Farm Program funds to the Agriculture Committee. In committee action, the House Appropriations panel endorsed accepting $23,000 in federal Office of Economic Opportunity funds for the low income advocacy council by an eight to three vote, with Republicans Kenalene Collins Harry Lawrence and Glendon King opposing.
