County Officials Face Possible Reorganization and Cost Shifts

County commissioners may direct towns to fix conditions or perform repairs themselves at costs not to exceed 1500 dollars with charges against the town. Probate judges could name probate registrars, sheriffs may appoint deputies, and new posts may combine or create roles in welfare, roads, and planning. County school aid could become a county function in towns without districts. County court systems may unify to cut costs, but the enduring structure of county government remains uncertain.
