PSB Chair Denies Guaranteed Rate Hike by New England Tel
Vermont Public Service Board chair William A. Gilbert defended a measured approach to New England Telephone's proposed rate increase. He denied any guaranteed profit and said decisions will be made in a professional manner after public hearings, with scope to deny or set any percentage increase. Citizens voiced concerns about seniors and small businesses facing higher bills, while witnesses urged lower rates or targeted relief. The PSB will hold two technical hearings in Montpelier before ruling, with possible appeals to the Vermont Supreme Court.
