Political Ecumenicism Opposing Cutts Resolution Forms in Vermont
In Bennington, Republicans led by J. Duncan Campbell and Democrats led by Lawrence Powers join to form committees aimed at defeating the Cutts Resolution in the Vermont Legislature. Powers named six members for his panel. Campbell plans another meeting to fill his Republican group. The measure seeks a federal constitutional convention to strip the Supreme Court of jurisdiction over state legislative apportionment and is opposed as nullifying the 14th Amendment and judicial review. The Senate will likely send the proposal to the Judiciary Committee with hearings anticipated.
