Japanese best seller of 1971 shrouded in mystery
Tokyo reports the top selling book of 1971 was an historical study with an author kept hidden amid controversy. Nihonji in To Yudayajin claimed a foreign Jewish background while Izaya Benda wrote it in Japanese, sparking questions about true identity. Critics doubted foreign knowledge of Japan. Publishers stayed silent as tracing efforts failed. The second best seller covered etiquette. Love Story by Eric Segal appeared as Rabus Satori in Japanese.

Broadway to Launch Gershwin Musical With Victor Borge
Broadway audiences may soon see a stage version of An American in Paris starring Victor Borge. The Civic Light Opera Company will create the musical for a summer fall run in Los Angeles and San Francisco before a planned Broadway bow next December, with early July and August dates in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The story will be revised to fit Borge as a Russian nobleman who flees the revolution and becomes Paris’s musical wit in the 1920s.
